Bonito, Brazil

Bonito is an aquatic playground in the south western corner of Mato Grosso do Sul. There are caves with lakes, waterfalls, and incredibly clear rivers surround by lush forest. The rivers waters spring from subterranean sources in a limestone base, almost entirely free of clay, which releases calcium carbonate into water. This calcifies all impurities in the water resulting in crystal clear rivers loaded with exotic fish. We stay in the Bonito Youth Hostel, which caters for tents, and is very clean with good facilities.
So we decided to go river tubeing with some white water which was fantastic, snorkelling for 1.5 km in wet suits looking at the millions of different fish which were hiding amongst lush river vegetation and finally overcame my fear of snakes by going to a lecture and handling an Anaconda, brilliant....the show goes on.

The photos 1 to 6 show the afternoon floating / snorkelling down a river. To start we had to paddle the safety boat 1.5 km up river to our entry point, and enjoy the hour and half exploring this incredible scenery.

Photo 7 and 8 are my good self with an anaconda wrapped around me, looking confident......nothing some toilet paper didn't put right later and of course Aussie Geoff who looks decidedly gay :)) I mean happy !

Photos 9 to 12 are from the tubeing which was hilarious and relaxing in parts but quite dramatic when you hit the white water.

And finally you need to relax, it's hard work this travel game so 3 1/2 litres of ale does the trick. Great idea, they deliver this pod to your table and it contains an aluminium tube which is frozen and keeps the beer cold. Must admit it didn't have time to get cold.

Until the next time
