Iguazu Falls, Argentina

14.01.13
Over the next couple of days Geoff and I are exploring the Iguazu or the Iguacu falls depending wether you're in Argentina or Brazil. Argentian side we head for the boardwalks, upper section to have a closer look at the "Devils Throat". Iguazu in the Guarani language means "big waters" and they certainly are massive. Heading through the jungle and out over the metal framed walkways above millions of tonnes of water, the weather is very hot, humid and energy sapping. We arrive at an astonishing sight. The Devils Throat is indeed spectacular. The area is shrouded in mist thrown up from the river as it thunders down 82 metres of canyon. You are drenched within minutes but thankfully I have the Olympus Tough camera which is waterproof and I click away. After half hour of taking in the views we head down to a lower level walkway system to get a perspective from another angle. This national park is vast and it takes us a couple of hours to reach our next viewpoints which again are equally spectacular. Throughout the park there are signs not to feed any animals especially the caitos, a raccoon like creature, which can deliver nasty cuts from its powerful claws and teeth. Having stopped for lunch, a pie each and a bag of crisps, we were just sitting down when I just caught sight of one of these caitos climbing on a chair at our table. "Geoff grab the food" too late it was off with our bag of crisps chased by Geoff. "Bastard" shouts Geoff but comes back triumphant with a torn packet and about three crisps, ha ha. We wolf our pies down sharpish and laugh as two sandwiches went from a table nearby, ha, amateurs !!
A great day, but very relaxing, too relaxing in fact and we can't be having that........

Adios
